After the Greek myth of the ingenious pair of wings which Daedalus devised for his son, Icarus as an escape from an island. The myth has it that Icarus flew too close to the sun, resulting in the melting of his wings (made of wax)and falling into the sea. We have a small ceramic statuette that was the inspiration for this painting.
